Liberals don’t want to take away your guns. The fact you think that’s what they mean by “GUN CONTROL” shows just how much the NRA has poisoned the conversation.

One of the things that drives me up the wall about our semi-regular gun control “debates” is this phantom version of liberalism conservatives always rage against. They hear “sensible gun control” as “BAN ALL THE GUNS,” or discussions about countries living without guns as if that’s what any of us are actually calling for. They’re just parroting the talking points fed to them by the conservative media.

I’m sure you can find a few comment section warriors who do want to get rid of all the guns, but they don’t represent any kind of liberal majority. Most of the snowflakes I know in real life are gun owners, be it hunters or folks who own hand guns for personal protection. Personally, I have my fill of guns in violent video games, hate hunting, and am under no John McClain delusions about my own ability to turn into a superhero in the face of gun violence, but I don’t want to take away your guns.

I just think there’s no good reason not to have a gun registry or for private citizens to own military grade weaponry to satisfy their gun fetish. I think we’d see less gun violence and fewer mass shootings if tightened gun show loopholes and limited clip sizes. More than anything else, I’d like to see the Dickey Amendment repealed, which blocks the CDC from spending any federal monies on researching the effects of gun violence.

Sadly, even that seems like a pipe dream at this point Our Democratic lawmakers are just as terrified by the NRA’s power as the conservatives are bought & paid. I mean, we had a liberal president for 8 years they were convinced was a socialist terror baby, but he didn’t do anything about gun control. I hope to be proven too cynical, but I think whatever the government does about guns in the near future will be just as much of a milquetoast token effort as what’s been done in the past.
